myristicins
Myristicins are naturally occurring organic compounds that belong to the phenylpropene class. They are primarily found in the essential oils of certain plants, most notably nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), from which their name is derived. Myristicin is also present in parsley and dill. Chemically, it is an isomer of estragole and safrole. The structure of myristicin consists of a benzene ring substituted with a propenyl group and two methoxy groups. This molecular arrangement contributes to its characteristic aroma and flavor.
In the context of nutmeg, myristicin is one of the main psychoactive components, alongside elemicin and safrole.
