Myonnøytrinoer, sometimes spelled muon neutrinos, are a type of elementary particle. They belong to the lepton family and are classified as a fermion. Myonnøytrinoer have a very small mass, and as of current understanding, they are electrically neutral. They interact via the weak nuclear force and gravity, but not through the electromagnetic or strong nuclear forces.

These particles are produced in certain types of radioactive decay, such as muon decay, and in high-energy interactions involving muons. They are also generated in particle accelerators and cosmic ray interactions in the Earth's atmosphere.

Myonnøytrinoer are one of the three known types, or "flavors," of neutrinos, the other two being elektronøytrinoer and tau-nøytrinoer. A significant property of neutrinos is neutrino oscillation, where they can change from one flavor to another as they travel. This phenomenon is a key piece of evidence for neutrinos having mass.

Detecting myonnøytrinoer is challenging due to their weak interactions. Large, specialized detectors are used, often located deep underground to shield them from other sources of radiation. These detectors look for the rare instances where a myonnøytrino interacts with an atom, producing a muon. The study of myonnøytrinoer, like other neutrinos, is crucial for understanding fundamental physics and the evolution of the universe.
