murreero

Murreero is a constructed language devised for a fictional universe centered on a coastal confederation known as Murre. In its in-world setting, Murreero functions as the lingua franca of the coastal peoples and appears across novels, games, and related media. The language is designed to be regular and expressive, supporting a variety of narrative styles.

Phonology features a modest inventory: five vowels a, e, i, o, u, and consonants such as p, t, k, s, m, n, l, r, f, h, w, and j. Syllables typically follow a (C)(C)V(C) pattern, and stress falls on the penultimate syllable. The language is not phonemically tonal.

Grammar is predominantly analytic with a subject–verb–object (SVO) base word order, supplemented by agglutinative affixes for tense, aspect, and mood. Noun phrases include articles and number marking, while adjectives usually follow nouns. Verbs agree with subject pronouns for person and number in finite forms. Case marking on nouns is limited but used in certain constructions.

Writing uses a Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to indicate vowel quality, and a ceremonial logographic script exists for special inscriptions. Published resources include a grammar guide, a dictionary, and a collection of narrated texts used by fans and scholars.

Murreero was developed by linguist Dr. Lira Myles in 2010 for a multimedia project. It has since gained a devoted community of learners and writers who contribute to ongoing descriptions, texts, and worldbuilding materials within the Murreero universe.
