miyeloid

Miyeloid is a term that does not appear in standard scientific nomenclature. It is most often encountered as a misspelling or variant of myeloid, a descriptor used in hematology to designate cells derived from the myeloid lineage in the bone marrow.

In vertebrate hematopoiesis, the myeloid lineage gives rise to erythrocytes (red blood cells), platelets, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, and certain dendritic cells and macrophages; these cells are collectively involved in innate immunity, coagulation, and tissue maintenance.

Outside of established biology, the term has appeared in speculative fiction and some fan or speculative biology literature to denote hypothetical cell types or tissue states; in such contexts, its meaning is defined by the author and not by consensus science.

Because of its potential to cause confusion, most scientific sources treat miyeloid as a misspelling of myeloid. Readers should consult standard terms when precision is needed.
