Mitoitusmenetelmä, also known as mitosis, is a fundamental process in cell division that occurs in eukaryotic cells. It is responsible for the growth and repair of tissues in multicellular organisms. The process involves two main phases: mitosis and cytokinesis. Mitosis is further divided into four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

During prophase, the chromosomes condense and become visible, and the mitotic spindle begins to form. In metaphase, the chromosomes align at the metaphase plate, and the spindle fibers attach to the centromeres. Anaphase is characterized by the separation of sister chromatids, which are pulled to opposite poles of the cell. Finally, in telophase, the chromosomes decondense and the nuclear envelope reforms, resulting in two genetically identical daughter nuclei.

Cytokinesis follows mitosis and involves the division of the cytoplasm, resulting in two separate daughter cells. The mechanism of cytokinesis varies depending on the type of cell. In animal cells, a contractile ring of actin and myosin proteins forms and constricts to divide the cell. In plant cells, a cell plate forms in the middle of the cell and grows outward until it reaches the cell wall, dividing the cell into two.

Mitosis is crucial for various biological processes, including growth, development, tissue repair, and asexual reproduction. It ensures that each daughter cell receives an identical set of chromosomes, maintaining genetic stability. However, errors in mitosis can lead to genetic disorders and diseases such as cancer. Therefore, the accurate regulation of mitosis is essential for the proper functioning of an organism.
