minimilämpömittarien
Minimilämpömittari, known in English as a minimum thermometer, is a scientific instrument used to record the lowest temperature reached over a specific period. It is commonly employed in meteorology for daily temperature tracking. The most prevalent type of minimum thermometer is a mercury thermometer with a specific design feature. Within the glass tube, just above the mercury column, is a small, dumbbell-shaped index or marker. As the temperature drops, the mercury contracts and pulls this index down with it. However, the index remains in place when the mercury column rises due to increasing temperatures, effectively marking the lowest point the mercury reached. To reset the thermometer for the next measurement period, the index is usually nudged back up to the top of the mercury column using a gentle tap or a magnetic device. Other variations exist, including alcohol-based minimum thermometers, which are preferred in very cold climates where mercury can freeze. These instruments are crucial for understanding diurnal temperature fluctuations and are a standard component of weather stations.
