Methylphenylamine, also known as N-methylaniline, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H9N. It is a derivative of aniline where one hydrogen atom on the amine group has been replaced by a methyl group. It appears as a colorless to yellowish or reddish-brown oily liquid and is characterized by a fish-like odor. Methylphenylamine is sparingly soluble in water but miscible with many organic solvents.
Industrially, methylphenylamine is produced through the reaction of aniline with methanol in the presence of a
