The meningeal arteries are a group of blood vessels that supply the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. The most significant of these is the middle meningeal artery, which is a branch of the maxillary artery. This artery enters the skull through the foramen spinosum and then branches out to supply the dura mater, the outermost of the three meninges. Injuries to the middle meningeal artery, often caused by trauma to the head, can lead to epidural hematomas, a serious condition where blood accumulates between the dura mater and the skull.
