Megolvasztása refers to the process of melting something, commonly used in Hungarian contexts. It describes the transformation of a solid substance into a liquid state due to an increase in temperature. This phenomenon is observed across various scientific and everyday applications.

In chemistry and physics, megolvasztása is the melting point, the specific temperature at which a solid turns into a liquid at a given pressure. Different materials have distinct melting points. For instance, ice melts at 0 degrees Celsius, while iron melts at a much higher temperature. The energy required to cause this phase transition is known as the latent heat of fusion.

Everyday examples include the melting of butter or chocolate when heated, or the melting of snow and ice in warmer weather.
