Masszforgások, also known as mass rotations, are a concept in physics describing the change in distribution of mass within a rotating object. When an object spins, its mass can shift, and this shift affects its rotational inertia, also known as the moment of inertia. This property dictates how easily an object's rotation can be changed.

A simplified example of a masszforgás occurs when a figure skater pulls their arms in while spinning. By bringing their mass closer to the axis of rotation, they decrease their moment of inertia. This decrease in moment of inertia, while conserving angular momentum, leads to an increase in their rotational speed. Conversely, extending their arms outwards increases their moment of inertia, slowing down their spin.

This principle is not limited to figure skating. It applies to various astronomical bodies, such as stars and planets, which can experience mass redistribution due to internal processes or external gravitational interactions. Changes in mass distribution also play a role in the mechanics of rotating machinery, where maintaining a balanced distribution of mass is crucial for stability and efficiency.
