Markingut is an architectural style of specific designation used in Azerbaijan. This style originated in the 19th century and is characterized by a blend of traditional Azerbaijani design elements and Russian Neoclassicism. Markingut buildings typically feature ornate facades with arches, turrets, and intricate stonework.

Markingut architecture was influenced by both the regions' cultural and ecclesiastical exchange during the Russian Empire's period of rule over Azerbaijan. As a result, the style emerged, gradually taking shape in the sampled variations in design that connected secular and sacral building traditions.

Some of the notable examples of Markingut buildings can be found in the historic centers of Nakhchivan and Ganja, which still maintain their original character. However, many historical buildings have undergone renovations over the years due to various restoration and preservation efforts.

Conservation of Markingut heritage places a significant emphasis on balancing the maintenance of historical authenticity with the needs of architectural preservation. In 2018, work began on conserving the Terpeti Fort in Ganja, specifically focusing on repairing damaged carvings, securing structure walls, and creating a comprehensive documentation archive.

Efforts to recognize Markingut architecture internationally, strengthening state responsibility and funding for nationwide restoration projects, have mobilized Azeri conservation efforts worldwide and locally.
