A logiikkaportti, or logic gate in English, is a fundamental building block of digital circuits. It's a physical device that performs a basic logical function on one or more binary inputs and produces a single binary output. The output is determined by a specific logical operation applied to the inputs.

The most common logic gates are AND, OR, and NOT. An AND gate outputs a 1 only if all of its inputs are 1. An OR gate outputs a 1 if at least one of its inputs is 1. A NOT gate, also known as an inverter, has only one input and outputs the opposite of its input; if the input is 1, the output is 0, and vice versa. Other common gates include NAND (NOT AND), NOR (NOT OR), XOR (exclusive OR), and XNOR (exclusive NOR).

Logic gates are implemented using semiconductor devices like transistors. They are the core components that enable computers and other digital devices to perform calculations, make decisions, and store information. By combining multiple logic gates in intricate arrangements, complex circuits can be created to perform sophisticated functions.
