lipidikerroksesta
Lipidikerros, often translated as lipid layer or lipid bilayer, is a fundamental structure in biology. It forms the basic fabric of all cell membranes, including the plasma membrane that encloses a cell and the membranes surrounding internal organelles like the nucleus and mitochondria. This bilayer is composed primarily of amphipathic phospholipid molecules. Amphipathic means these molecules have both a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail.
In an aqueous environment, these phospholipids spontaneously arrange themselves into a bilayer. The hydrophilic heads face
