A levylämpönsiirtäjä, or plate heat exchanger, is a type of heat exchanger that uses metal plates to transfer heat between two fluids. The plates are typically made of stainless steel or titanium and are corrugated to increase the surface area for heat transfer. The fluids flow through alternating channels between the plates, allowing heat to be exchanged without the fluids coming into direct contact.

These devices are highly efficient due to the large surface area provided by the plates and the thinness of the plates themselves, which minimizes thermal resistance. They are also compact and can be easily dismantled for cleaning and maintenance. The design allows for close temperature approaches, meaning the outlet temperature of one fluid can be very close to the inlet temperature of the other fluid. Maintenance typically involves disassembling the unit, cleaning the plates, and replacing any worn gaskets.
