Lenseffecten refers to a range of optical phenomena that occur when light passes through a lens. These effects can alter the quality and appearance of an image, and understanding them is crucial in fields like photography, astronomy, and microscopy.

One common lenseffect is chromatic aberration. This happens because lenses refract different wavelengths of light at slightly different angles, causing colors to separate and resulting in color fringing, particularly around high-contrast edges. Another significant effect is spherical aberration, where light rays passing through the edges of a spherical lens are focused at a different point than those passing through the center. This leads to a loss of sharpness and detail.

Distortion is another category of lenseffects, characterized by the bending of straight lines in an image. Barrel distortion causes straight lines to bow outwards from the center, while pincushion distortion makes them bow inwards. Coma, also known as comatic aberration, is an off-axis aberration that causes points of light to appear comet-shaped, with a tail extending away from the optical axis.

Astigmatism is an aberration where light rays in two perpendicular planes are focused at different points, leading to a loss of sharpness and the appearance of lines in certain orientations. Finally, field curvature occurs when the focal plane of a lens is not flat, meaning that the center and edges of an image cannot both be in sharp focus simultaneously. Lens designers employ various techniques, such as using multiple lens elements made of different glass types, to minimize or correct these lenseffecten and achieve sharper, more accurate images.
