Landningsbanan, or runway in English, is a rectangular area on an airfield prepared for aircraft to take off and land. It is typically made of asphalt, concrete, or a combination of both, and is designed to withstand the weight and stresses of aircraft operations. Landningsbanor are usually marked with a series of white lines and numbers to guide pilots. The numbers indicate the magnetic heading of the runway, divided by ten. For example, a runway marked with '27' is oriented approximately 270 degrees west.
