Lainsäädäntöehdotus refers to a proposal for new legislation or an amendment to existing law within the Finnish legal system. The most common source of lainsäädäntöehdotus is the Finnish Government, which prepares legislative proposals through its ministries. These proposals are then debated and approved by the Government before being submitted to the Parliament (Eduskunta) for consideration. Individual Members of Parliament can also introduce their own legislative proposals, known as kansalaisaloite, which must gather a certain number of signatures to be formally considered by Parliament.

Once a lainsäädäntöehdotus is submitted to Parliament, it undergoes a rigorous review process.
