Lainsäädäntöaloite refers to a legislative initiative in Finland. It is a proposal for a new law or an amendment to an existing law. The right to submit legislative initiatives is primarily held by the Government, which submits most of its proposals to Parliament as government bills. Members of Parliament also have the right to introduce legislative initiatives, known as parliamentary initiatives. These can be submitted by individual MPs or by groups of MPs.
When a legislative initiative is submitted to Parliament, it goes through a process of review and debate.
