képhez

Képhez is the allative form of the Hungarian noun kép, meaning image or picture. In Hungarian grammar, the allative case marks direction toward a reference point, so képhez translates roughly as “to the image” or “towards the picture.” The allative is formed with the suffixes -hoz, -hez, or -höz, with -hez being the usual variant for the word kép. The choice among -hoz, -hez, and -höz depends on phonological harmony and the stem’s form; for kép, the common form is képhez. The allative form can also be attached to possessed forms, producing expressions such as képemhez (“to my picture”) or képményünkhöz (“to our picture”).

Usage of képhez appears in spatial and directional contexts, as well as in phrases that express relation or reference to an image. It answers questions like where something is directed or anchored relative to the picture, or what point the action is aimed toward. It can also occur in metaphorical or descriptive constructions that treat the image as a reference frame.
