Kuluttajaturva refers to consumer safety in Finland. It encompasses the legal framework and practical measures designed to protect consumers from products and services that could pose a risk to their health or property. The primary legislation governing consumer safety is the Consumer Safety Act (Kuluttajaturvallisuuslaki), which aims to ensure that products and services placed on the market are safe for consumers under normal or reasonably foreseeable use.

This legislation places obligations on manufacturers, importers, distributors, and service providers to assess and manage the risks associated with their offerings. They must ensure that products and services meet safety requirements and provide consumers with necessary information to use them safely. Authorities, such as the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), are responsible for supervising the market, enforcing consumer safety regulations, and taking action against unsafe products or services. This can include issuing warnings, ordering recalls, or imposing penalties.

Consumers also have a role in ensuring their own safety by using products as intended, following instructions, and reporting any safety concerns they encounter. The concept of kuluttajaturva extends to both physical products and services, covering a wide range of activities from product manufacturing and import to the provision of services like childcare or recreational activities. The overarching goal is to create a safe marketplace for everyone.
