Koronærarterien, also known as coronary arteries, are vital blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle itself. These arteries branch off from the aorta, the main artery leaving the left ventricle of the heart. The two main coronary arteries are the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery.

The left main coronary artery quickly divides into two major branches: the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery. The left anterior descending artery supplies blood to the front and left sides of the heart, including the ventricles. The left circumflex artery supplies blood to the left atrium and the back and left sides of the left ventricle.

The right coronary artery typically supplies blood to the right atrium, the right ventricle, and a portion of the back of the left ventricle. The specific distribution can vary slightly among individuals.

The health of the coronary arteries is crucial for overall cardiovascular well-being. Atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up inside the arteries, can narrow or block coronary arteries.
