Kloridiioni is a term used in some contexts to refer to the chloride ion, Cl−, the negatively charged form of chlorine. In chemical notation it is written as Cl− and appears widely in inorganic salts and aqueous solutions.

Kloridiioni properties: The chloride ion carries a −1 charge, is small in size, and is highly soluble in water. It is a relatively weakly coordinating anion and commonly serves as a counterion for many metal cations. Under strong oxidizing conditions it can be oxidized to chlorine gas.

Occurrence and production: Kloridiioni forms when chlorine is reduced or when chloride-containing salts dissolve in water. It is abundant in seawater and in minerals such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, and ammonium chloride.

Biological and industrial relevance: In biology, chloride ions are essential electrolytes, contributing to osmotic balance, nerve impulse transmission, and acid–base regulation. Industrially, chloride ions are involved in electrochemistry, metallurgy, salt chemistry, and the production of chlorine-based reagents.

Safety and environmental note: Concentrated chloride solutions can be corrosive and irritant to skin and mucous membranes; appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are recommended when handling them.
