Kjølekretsløp refers to a refrigeration cycle, a thermodynamic process used to transfer heat from a colder space to a warmer space. This process is fundamental to many cooling technologies, including refrigerators, air conditioners, and heat pumps. The cycle typically involves four main components: a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, and an evaporator.

The cycle begins with the compressor, which pressurizes a refrigerant, increasing its temperature and pressure. This high-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant then flows to the condenser, usually located on the outside of the cooled space. Here, the refrigerant releases heat to the surroundings and condenses into a high-pressure liquid. The liquid refrigerant then passes through an expansion valve, where its pressure and temperature drop significantly.

Finally, the low-pressure, low-temperature refrigerant enters the evaporator, which is located within the space to be cooled. As the refrigerant absorbs heat from the surrounding air or substance, it evaporates back into a low-pressure gas. This cooled gas then returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats, continuously removing heat and maintaining a low temperature. The efficiency of a kjølekretsløp is measured by its Coefficient of Performance (COP), which indicates how much cooling effect is achieved for the energy consumed.
