Kasvihuonetiloja, also known as greenhouse gases, are gases in Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. They are essential for maintaining the planet's temperature, as they absorb and re-radiate infrared radiation, a process known as the greenhouse effect. This natural phenomenon is crucial for supporting life on Earth, as it keeps the planet's average temperature at around 15 degrees Celsius, which is suitable for most living organisms.

The primary greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and water vapor (H2O). Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes, have significantly increased the concentration of these gases in the atmosphere, leading to an enhanced greenhouse effect and global warming.
