kälteren

Kälteren is a municipality in the district of Bozen-Unterland in the autonomous province of South Tyrol, Italy. It is located in the valley of the Etsch river, south of Bozen. The municipality has a population of approximately 12,000 people, and its inhabitants are predominantly German-speaking.

The area of Kälteren has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by archaeological finds. In Roman times, it was part of the province of Raetia. During the Middle Ages, Kälteren was an important market town and a strategic point on trade routes. It was part of the Prince-Bishopric of Trent until the Napoleonic Wars, after which it was incorporated into the Austrian Empire. Following World War I, Kälteren became part of Italy.

Kälteren is known for its wine production, particularly for the Schiava grape variety, which produces light-bodied red wines. The region's mild climate and fertile soil are ideal for viticulture.
