Käivitusmootor, also known as a starter motor, is an electric motor that is used to crank and rotate an internal combustion engine to start it. When the ignition switch is turned, a small electric current is sent to the starter motor. This current energizes a solenoid, which in turn engages a small gear called a pinion gear with a larger gear on the engine's flywheel. The starter motor then spins the pinion gear, which turns the flywheel, causing the engine's crankshaft to rotate. This rotation allows the engine's pistons to move, drawing in fuel and air, and initiating the combustion process. Once the engine starts running on its own, the starter motor is disengaged. Modern starter motors are typically direct current (DC) motors, powered by the vehicle's battery. They are designed to deliver a high torque for a short period to overcome the inertia of the engine. The starter motor is a critical component of any vehicle with an internal combustion engine, as it is responsible for initiating the engine's operation.
