järjestysasteikollista
Järjestysasteikollista, often translated as ordinal scale or rank order scale, is a type of measurement scale in statistics. It is a quantitative scale where the observed data can be ordered. The difference between the values of an ordinal scale is not meaningful, but the order is. For example, rankings in a competition like first place, second place, and third place are an example of ordinal data. While we know that first place is better than second place, we cannot say how much better it is. Similarly, customer satisfaction ratings like "poor," "fair," "good," and "excellent" represent an ordinal scale. We can order these categories, but the difference in satisfaction between "fair" and "good" is not necessarily the same as the difference between "good" and "excellent." Ordinal scales are used when precise quantitative differences are not available or not the primary focus of the measurement. They are a step up from nominal scales, which only allow for categorization without any inherent order.
