Jatkuvuusvaatimukset, or continuity requirements, refer to the conditions that must be met for a mathematical function or a sequence to be considered continuous. In calculus and analysis, continuity is a fundamental concept that describes whether a function can be drawn without lifting the pen.

For a function f(x) to be continuous at a point 'a', three conditions must be satisfied. First, the function must be defined at 'a', meaning f(a) exists. Second, the limit of the function as x approaches 'a' must exist. This implies that the limit from the left (as x approaches 'a' from values less than 'a') and the limit from the right (as x approaches 'a' from values greater than 'a') must be equal. Third, the limit of the function as x approaches 'a' must be equal to the function's value at 'a'. That is, lim_{x->a} f(x) = f(a).

If any of these conditions are not met, the function is said to be discontinuous at 'a'. There are different types of discontinuities, such as removable discontinuities (where a single point can be added or changed to make the function continuous), jump discontinuities (where the left and right limits exist but are not equal), and infinite discontinuities (where the function approaches infinity or negative infinity).

Continuity requirements are crucial in many areas of mathematics, including differential equations, optimization, and numerical analysis, as they underpin theorems and algorithms that rely on the smooth behavior of functions.
