Jõuväljad, often translated as force fields, are a fundamental concept in physics that describes regions in space where a physical force can be detected. These forces act on objects that possess certain properties, such as mass or electric charge, and are mediated by the field itself.

There are several types of jõuväljad, including gravitational fields, which exert a force on objects with mass, and electromagnetic fields, which affect objects with electric charge. Gravitational fields are generated by any object with mass, and their strength decreases with distance. Electromagnetic fields can be generated by stationary electric charges (electric fields) or by moving electric charges (magnetic fields), and their interactions are described by Maxwell's equations.

The concept of a jõuväli was developed to explain how forces can act across distances without direct contact. Instead of objects directly influencing each other, they are understood to influence the jõuväli in their vicinity, and it is this altered field that then exerts a force on other objects. This field perspective provides a more comprehensive understanding of interactions in the universe.

Quantum field theory extends this concept to the subatomic level, proposing that fundamental forces are mediated by elementary particles called force carriers.
