Intrascapular refers to something located within the scapula, also known as the shoulder blade. The scapula is a large, triangular flat bone that connects the humerus (upper arm bone) with the clavicle (collarbone).

Within the scapula, there are various anatomical structures and regions. For instance, the infraspinous fossa and supraspinous fossa are indentations on the posterior surface of the scapula where muscles attach. The glenoid cavity is a shallow depression on the lateral angle that articulates with the head of the humerus to form the glenohumeral joint, or shoulder joint.

Injuries or conditions affecting the scapula can therefore be described as intrascapular if they are located within its boundaries. This term might be used in medical contexts, such as in radiology reports or surgical descriptions, to precisely define the location of a lesion, fracture, or other pathology. For example, an intrascapular fracture would be a break in the bone of the scapula itself, as opposed to a fracture of a surrounding bone or soft tissue.
