Inscenace is a term used in Czech and Slovak theatre to denote the staging or production of a dramatic work. It refers to the realized or planned presentation of a play, opera, or other performance, encompassing both the artistic concept and the practical realization on stage.

As a concept, inscenace includes the director’s interpretation of the script, the rhythm and pacing of scenes, and the overall dramatic approach. It also covers the technical and visual aspects of a production, such as set design, lighting, sound, costumes, props, and the coordination of actors’ movements and blocking. Variations in inscenace can reflect different directorial visions, dramaturgical choices, or contemporary updates to a classic work.

Inscenace is distinct from merely reading or rehearsing a script; it denotes a concrete, staged realization presented to an audience. The term is used in theatre discourse, program notes, and reviews to describe a particular production as a whole, as well as to discuss changes made in different stagings of the same text.
