Inimõigused are fundamental rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of their race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. These rights are universal, indivisible, and inalienable. They are based on the principle of human dignity and the recognition that every individual has inherent worth. The concept of inimõigused has evolved over centuries, with significant milestones including the Enlightenment thinkers and the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.

Inimõigused encompass a wide range of freedoms and protections. Civil and political rights include the right to life, liberty, and security; freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment; freedom of expression and opinion; freedom of assembly and association; and the right to participate in government. International treaties and conventions, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, further elaborate on and codify these rights. National constitutions and laws often incorporate and protect inimõigused, providing legal recourse for individuals whose rights have been violated. While significant progress has been made in promoting and protecting inimõigused globally, challenges remain in ensuring their full realization for all people.
