Idegrendszerben, also known as the nervous system, is a complex network of neurons and supportive cells that transmits signals throughout the body. It is responsible for coordinating and controlling the activities of the body, including sensory perception, movement, and cognitive functions. The nervous system can be divided into two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).

The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The brain is the control center of the body, processing information and initiating responses. The spinal cord acts as a relay, transmitting signals between the brain and the rest of the body. The peripheral nervous system, on the other hand, includes all the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. It can be further divided into the somatic nervous system, which controls voluntary movements, and the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary functions such as heart rate and digestion.

The nervous system communicates through electrical and chemical signals. Neurons, the primary cells of the nervous system, transmit signals through a process called synaptic transmission. When a neuron is stimulated, it generates an electrical impulse that travels down the axon to the synaptic terminal. Here, neurotransmitters are released into the synaptic cleft, where they bind to receptors on the next neuron, initiating a new electrical impulse.

The nervous system is crucial for survival and well-being. It allows individuals to respond to their environment, learn from experiences, and maintain homeostasis. However, it is also vulnerable to damage and disease, which can lead to various neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
