ideaalsetes

Ideaalsetes is a term used in Estonian-language mathematical and philosophical literature to refer to a class of subsets of a given universal set that satisfy an ideal-like closure property. The word merges ideaal (ideal) with set and is used to denote “ideal sets” in discussions of smallness or negligibility within a larger system.

In the mathematical sense, an ideal on a set X is a collection I of subsets of X that contains the empty set, is closed under taking subsets and under finite unions, and is proper if it is not all subsets of X. Ideaalsetes refers to this concept in Estonian texts and is commonly employed to describe families of subsets that are considered small or negligible relative to a chosen context. Typical examples include the finite subsets of X, and, in appropriate frameworks, the sets of measure zero or meager sets, which form sigma-ideals.
