A hyponym is a semantic relation between two lexical terms in which the meaning of the first term is included within the meaning of the second. The more general term is called the hypernym. In this relationship, the hyponym denotes a specific kind of the hypernym. For example, “rose” is a hyponym of “flower” because every rose is a flower, while not every flower is a rose.
