Hyperjumps, also known as FTL or faster-than-light travel, are a theoretical method of interstellar travel that allows spacecraft to travel between distant points in space at speeds exceeding the speed of light. This concept is a staple of science fiction and has been explored through various theoretical frameworks.

One common idea involves distorting spacetime itself. This could be achieved by creating a bubble of warped space around the ship, contracting space in front of it and expanding it behind. The ship itself would remain stationary within this bubble, but the bubble would move, effectively transporting the ship across vast distances without violating local relativistic laws. Another concept suggests the use of wormholes, hypothetical tunnels through spacetime that could connect two separate points, allowing for instantaneous or near-instantaneous travel.

While hyperjumps are a popular plot device, they currently remain purely hypothetical. Our current understanding of physics, particularly Einstein's theory of relativity, suggests that exceeding the speed of light is impossible for objects with mass. However, ongoing research into the nature of spacetime, quantum mechanics, and exotic matter continues to explore the theoretical possibilities that might one day allow for such journeys.
