Hszivattyúkat is a Hungarian term that translates to "heat pumps" in English. Heat pumps are mechanical devices that transfer thermal energy from a source, typically a colder one, to a destination, usually a warmer one. This process is the reverse of how a natural heat flow occurs, hence the "pump" in their name.

The fundamental principle behind heat pump operation is the refrigeration cycle, which involves a refrigerant fluid. This fluid circulates through a closed loop, undergoing phase changes between liquid and gas. In the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the colder source, such as the outside air, ground, or water. This absorbed heat causes the refrigerant to vaporize. The gaseous refrigerant then travels to the compressor, where its pressure and temperature are increased. Subsequently, in the condenser, the hot, high-pressure refrigerant releases its heat to the warmer destination, typically the interior of a building, and condenses back into a liquid. Finally, an expansion valve reduces the pressure and temperature of the liquid refrigerant, preparing it to re-enter the evaporator.

Heat pumps are highly energy-efficient because they move existing heat rather than generating it through combustion. This makes them a popular choice for heating and cooling applications, contributing to reduced energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional heating systems.
