homosügootsuse
Homosügootsus, a term sometimes used in genetics, refers to a state where an individual possesses two identical alleles for a particular gene. This means that for a specific genetic locus, both copies of the chromosome carry the same version of the gene. For example, if a gene determines eye color, and the allele for brown eyes is represented by 'B', a homosügoot for brown eyes would have two 'B' alleles (genotype BB). Conversely, a homosügoot for blue eyes, represented by 'b', would have the genotype bb.
The alternative to homosügootsus is heterosügootsus, where an individual has two different alleles for a gene.
