Hiilihapotettuna, also known as carbon sequestration, is the process by which carbon dioxide (CO2) is removed from the atmosphere and stored in various natural or artificial reservoirs. CCS technology involves capturing CO2 emissions from industrial processes, transporting the captured CO2, and storing it in underground geological formations, such as depleted oil and gas reservoirs or deep saline aquifers. DAC, on the other hand, focuses on capturing CO2 directly from the ambient air, which can then be stored or used for various purposes, such as enhancing oil recovery or producing synthetic fuels.

The effectiveness of carbon sequestration depends on several factors, including the stability of the carbon storage reservoir, the potential for leakage, and the long-term viability of the sequestration method. Ongoing research and development efforts aim to improve the efficiency and safety of carbon sequestration technologies, as well as to explore new methods for enhancing natural carbon sequestration processes.
