Hasnyálmirigyenzimek refers to the digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas. These enzymes play a crucial role in breaking down food into smaller molecules that the body can absorb. The pancreas secretes these enzymes into the small intestine, where they work in conjunction with bile from the liver.

The primary digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas include amylase, lipase, and proteases. Pancreatic amylase is responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates, such as starch, into simpler sugars. Pancreatic lipase breaks down fats, or lipids, into fatty acids and glycerol. Proteases, such as trypsin and chymotrypsin, digest proteins into amino acids. These enzymes are secreted in inactive forms, known as zymogens, and are activated within the small intestine to prevent self-digestion of the pancreas.

A deficiency or malfunction of pancreatic enzymes can lead to maldigestion and malabsorption, resulting in symptoms like diarrhea, steatorrhea (fatty stools), abdominal pain, and weight loss. Conditions such as chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and pancreatic cancer can impair the pancreas's ability to produce and secrete adequate amounts of these enzymes. In such cases, pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) may be prescribed, involving the oral administration of supplemental enzymes to aid digestion.
