géo

Géo can refer to several related concepts in French and in science. The most common usage is as a prefix derived from the Greek ge- meaning Earth. It appears in a wide range of terms that describe Earth and its phenomena, such as géographie (geography), géologie (geology), géophysique (geophysics), géothermie (geothermal energy) and géomatique (geomatics). The term géographie refers to the science that studies the Earth’s surfaces, their distributions, and interactions, and it is central to both human geography and physical geography as well as to spatial analysis. The geo- prefix is likewise used in many languages to form comparable terms.

Géo is also the title of a French travel and geography magazine. The publication focuses on places,
