Glomeruluskohtaisesti is a Finnish term used in renal pathology to describe the assessment of histological findings on a per-glomerulus basis in a renal biopsy. The approach involves examining each glomerulus in the specimen and reporting results as averages or proportions relative to the total number of glomeruli analyzed. This contrasts with reporting that summarizes findings only at the level of the entire biopsy or patient.

In practice, glomeruluskohtaisesti means counting and describing features such as sclerosis (global or segmental), crescents, inflammation, and immune deposits for each glomerulus and then aggregating the data. The per-glomerulus data can be presented as the percentage of affected glomeruli, the mean number of lesions per glomerulus, or similar metrics. This method helps account for sampling variation when the biopsy contains a variable number of glomeruli.

Advantages of per-glomerulus reporting include improved normalization across different samples and enhanced ability to quantify focal involvement. It can facilitate comparisons between patients and over time. Limitations include potential instability when only a few glomeruli are present, inter-observer variability in lesion interpretation, and the need for careful standardization of scoring criteria.
