glasagtig

Glasagtig is a Danish term meaning glass-like. In geology and mineralogy, it describes textures or appearances of rocks and minerals that resemble glass or have a vitreous luster, often resulting from rapid cooling or an amorphous structure.

A glasagtig rock typically lacks discernible crystalline grains, has a smooth surface, and fractures conchoidally. It can be translucent to opaque and may occur in a range of colors.

Glassy textures arise when silicate melts cool rapidly, preventing crystal growth. Volcanic glass such as obsidian is the primary natural example; glassy matrices also appear in some impact and high-temperature metamorphic rocks.

Beyond geology, glasagtig can describe surfaces or coatings that resemble glass in appearance or properties, including ceramic glazes or synthetic glass-like materials used in industrial contexts.
