folketingsvalg

Folketingsvalg refers to the parliamentary elections held in Denmark to elect members to the Folketing, the country's national parliament. The Folketing has 179 members, known as Members of the Folketing or "Folketingsmedlemmer" in Danish, who serve four-year terms.

According to Danish law, Folketingsvalg are held no later than four years after the previous election. The election date is typically set by the Danish monarch, on the advice of the Prime Minister, usually in week 41 of the calendar year, which is the last week of October.

In the Folketingsvalg, voters elect members representing electoral districts across Denmark. There are 92 electoral districts, each electing one or more members to the Folketing, depending on the population. Voters also have the option to elect representatives with a national mandate, in addition to their local representatives.

To be eligible for election, candidates must meet certain requirements, such as being at least 18 years old, being a citizen of an EU or Nordic country or Switzerland, and being based in Denmark. Candidates may stand for election as part of a party or as independents.

During the election campaign, parties and candidates promote their policies and programs. Following the election, parties with a minimum of 2% of the total vote typically form part of the government. The party or coalition with the most seats usually forms a government, led by the Prime Minister.
