Flexorjänteitä, or flexor tendons, are fibrous cords of connective tissue that connect muscles in the forearm and lower leg to bones in the hand and foot, respectively. These tendons are crucial for movement, enabling flexion, or the bending, of the fingers, wrist, thumb, toes, and ankle.

In the hand, the flexor tendons are divided into superficial and deep groups. The superficial flexor tendons control the bending of the middle joint of each finger, while the deep flexor tendons are responsible for bending the fingertip. The flexor tendons of the wrist, located on the palm side, allow for the bending of the wrist downwards.

Similarly, in the lower leg, flexor tendons are located on the posterior side of the ankle and foot. The tibialis posterior tendon, for example, plays a vital role in supporting the arch of the foot and inverting the foot. Other flexor tendons of the foot enable the toes to curl downwards.

Injuries to flexor tendons, such as tears or ruptures, can significantly impair a person's ability to perform everyday tasks. These injuries often result from trauma, overuse, or conditions like arthritis. Treatment typically involves immobilization, physical therapy, and sometimes surgical repair to restore function. Inflammation of these tendons, known as tendinitis, can cause pain and stiffness.
