Fasordiagrammer, often referred to as phasor diagrams, are graphical representations used in electrical engineering and physics to visualize alternating current (AC) quantities like voltage and current. These diagrams simplify the analysis of circuits containing resistive, inductive, and capacitive components. A phasor is a vector that rotates at a constant angular velocity, representing a sinusoidal quantity. The length of the phasor represents the amplitude (peak value) of the quantity, and its angle represents its phase.

In a phasor diagram, multiple phasors can be drawn originating from the same point. The relative angles between these phasors indicate the phase differences between the corresponding AC quantities. For example, in a series AC circuit, the voltage phasors across each component (resistor, inductor, capacitor) and the total voltage phasor can be depicted. Vector addition of the individual voltage phasors yields the total voltage phasor, illustrating Kirchhoff's voltage law in an AC context. Similarly, current phasors can be analyzed.

The orientation of the phasors on the diagram is crucial. Typically, the horizontal axis is considered the reference, representing zero phase. Phasors are drawn counterclockwise from this reference to indicate their respective phases. Inductive elements cause current to lag voltage, meaning the current phasor will be at a smaller angle than the voltage phasor. Capacitive elements cause current to lead voltage, so the current phasor will have a larger angle. These diagrams are invaluable tools for understanding power factor, impedance, and the overall behavior of AC circuits.
