escriviu

Escriviu is a verb form in Catalan derived from escriure, meaning to write. It is the present tense form used for the second person plural (vosaltres) and also functions as the imperative mood when giving a command to a group. In practice, it means “you all write” in statements and “Write!” in commands addressed to more than one person.

Morphology and meaning: escriviu comes from the root escriv- of escriure, with the usual second-person plural ending -iu. It is one of the standard conjugation forms in contemporary Catalan and appears in standard, Valencian, and Balearic varieties, as well as in formal and informal writing when addressing multiple people.

Usage and examples: In descriptive sentences, you might see: Vosaltres escriviu cartes cada dia. In imperative usage: Escriviu la paraula correctament al final de l’exercici. The form coexists with related forms for other persons, such as escriu (ell/Ella escriu) for the third person singular or tu escrius for the second person singular, and escrivim for “we write.”
