Energiapazarlásokat, a Hungarian term, translates to "energy markets" or "energy trading." It refers to the economic and technical infrastructure and activities involved in the buying and selling of energy commodities. These commodities primarily include electricity, natural gas, and, to some extent, refined oil products and renewable energy certificates. The purpose of energy markets is to facilitate the efficient allocation of energy resources, ensure supply security, and enable price discovery through competitive bidding and trading mechanisms.

These markets operate on various levels, from wholesale markets where producers and large consumers trade significant volumes, to retail markets where end-users purchase energy. Key participants include energy producers (generators), transmission and distribution system operators, energy traders, brokers, and various types of consumers. The design and regulation of energy markets are crucial for their proper functioning, aiming to balance the interests of all stakeholders while promoting competition and innovation.

The liberalization and deregulation of energy sectors in many countries, including Hungary, have led to the development of more sophisticated energy markets. These markets often employ various trading instruments such as spot markets (for immediate delivery), forward and futures markets (for future delivery), and options contracts, allowing participants to manage price risks and optimize their energy procurement and sales strategies.
