For those born in 1962 or later, the accrual rate is 1.7% of their pension contribution base.

This accumulated pension right, the eläkekarttuma, forms the basis of the pension that an individual will receive upon retirement. The total accumulated pension is calculated by summing up the accrual from all the years of employment. Various factors can influence the final eläkekarttuma, including the amount of earnings, periods of unemployment, and periods of illness or parental leave, which may also contribute to pension accrual under specific conditions.
