Elektriny, in Czech and Slovak usage, refers to electricity—the energy resulting from the presence and movement of electric charges, and the general phenomenon of electric power. In English, the term corresponds to electricity. It encompasses both static electricity (electrostatics) and dynamic current electricity, in which electrons flow through conductors.

Electricity is described by quantities such as voltage (potential difference), current (flow of charge), and power (rate of energy transfer). Its energy is typically measured in watt-hours or kilowatt-hours for consumption.

Electricity is generated in power plants from various energy sources, including fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal. The produced electrical energy is transmitted via high-voltage networks and distributed through transformers to lower voltages for homes and businesses. Modern grids increasingly incorporate smart-grid technology, demand management, and integration of distributed energy resources.
